Jamboree band to perform at April 1 show, Salsa Fest

 

            The next Brush County Music Jamboree is on Tuesday, April 1, starting at 7 p.m. at the Live Oak County Coliseum, halfway between George West and Three Rivers.

            Headlining the program is accordion player Chris Rybak of Hallettsville. Other guests include Bettye Jean, Karl Moore and Jay Grimes of San Antonio; 7-year-old Kaylie Layne Shoemake of Victoria; singer Bobby Williford of Three Rivers; and Cajun singer Jerry Naquin of Corpus Christi.

            According to Retzloff, “The Jamboree band will perform a three-hour program at the Three Rivers Salsa Festival on Saturday, April 5, starting at 1 p.m.

            All the band will be on hand, including Joe Nixon on fiddle, James Skidmore on drums, Gary Carriger on steel guitar, George Norris on rhythm guitar, Bob Miller on lead guitar and Larry Sellers on bass guitar.

            Backup singers Lothell DuBose and Jeannie Baldeschwiler, emcee Bill Dragoo and Jim Warren and Dale Cavallin will also be on hand. State champion fiddler Randy Elmore of Cleburne will also play twin fiddles with Nixon the entire program.

            Special guest performers will be accordion player Chris Rybak of Hallettsville; 13-year-old Blayne Center of Corpus Christi; Daniel Hindes of Pleasanton; Rick Reyna of Floresville; and Linda Wientjes of George West, who will sing gospel. Reyna and his band will also provide the music for the street dance that night.

            The festivities begin at 10 a.m. There will be salsa tasting and judging, food and craft booths and continuous entertainment. There will be gospel music and Tejano music. Rybak will also perform for about 45 minutes beginning at 11 a.m.
